Allegedly seeks to spark conversations at the intersection of
sexual violence, justice and our personal predicaments. Using
personal stories, experiences and musings, the piece asks
questions about the systems that govern us and the semantics
that carry out that governance. Built as an ‘ongoing discussion’
— a work forever in progress — Allegedly opens up the
contradictions, confusions and irregularities of our own
behaviour, while engaging the audience in the questions and
negotiations, the piece seeks to implicate their thoughts and
decisions in the direction the play takes, trying to ‘make sense occupies and creates online. of it all’. Or at least the closest we can get to!
The piece wasfirst commissioned by Zubaan, an independent feminist publishing house based in New Delhi, as part of their project ‘Stepping Stones’, that looked at sexual violence and impunity all over India. The piece has been performing ‘work in progress’ shows in universities and other contexts in India since 2018.
Now, Allegedly has been reimagined for 'touring' as a Live interactive performance online, and with a change in its form, it is also experiencing a redefining of the show’s relationship with its performers, audiences and the spaces it occupies and creates online.
Is it rape if I don’t feel raped? Can feeling be a fact?
What do you want?
Is the law the only form of justice?
What is justice?
What do you want?
How do you feel?
Are you sure?
What do you want?
Why did you take so long? What do you want?
