Women Walk at Midnight

Project type

Performative Action, Community Building, Global Practice

Role

Initiated the project in 2016.

Location

Global Practice

Date

2016 - Present

Women Walk at Midnight is a global practice of women walking, together, at night on the streets of our cities. The practice started in Delhi in 2016.

Since then, it has evolved, grown, adapted to varied contexts, also failed sometimes, but always picked itself up again. The political and performative insistence of the practice is to present itself on the streets of different cities around the world- speaking in different ways/ tonalities to different places. Over the years, a loose community of walkers and hosts has grown, often collecting around a midnight walk - thinking, feeling and breathing together.

Women Walk at Midnight has walked in cities such as Sao Paolo, Brussels, Erlangen, Bangalore, Guwahati, Rishikesh, Marseilles to name a few and has active, paused and upcoming chapters in Delhi, Kathmandu, Cape Town, Faridabad, Jaipur and Kolkata.
